Their Eyes Were Watching God, Chapter Thirteen.

Janie gets on a train in Eatonville, to go to Eatonville so she can marry Tea Cake. The train leaves really early in the morning, so not many people see her leave. But everyone that did said she looked really pretty.

The couple got married quickly. One of his first acts was that he took $200 dollars of Janies money. She had thoughts that her life was going to be like Mrs. Tyler, an Eatonville woman who married a younger man, and then left.

Janie worries for awhile, and Tea Cake finally comes  back. He tells her that he didn't run off with another woman, and that he wasn't planning on it. He told her that he used the money to throw a party for his friends that worked on the railroad.

Tea Cake sits and tells her about the party, and how he charged the ugly girls a two dollar price to get in. He said that he didn't want her to go to the party because he didn't think that she'd like the people. She told him that it wouldn't of mattered, she would of accepted them.

The money that Tea Cake took was replaced. with his still of gambling. He is really good at it too. He ends up having a miss hap with someone, and gets stabbed in the back, and it costs $300 for him to get his wounds healed. When his wounds are healed they leave and go to Jacksonville to go work in the Everglades.
