Their Eyes Were Watching God, Chapter Seven.

Janie's pretty much pointless and disappointing marriage goes on, for some odd years.

17 years have passed and Joe is aging alot. Janie really isn't. His personality also gets worse as he ages. He is also slowly dying of kidney failure. All of the anger that he has built up, he contiunes to take out on Janie. One of the days he even freaks out on her and tells her she can't play croquet because it iwas "game for young folks."

Joe's symptoms consist of getting smaller, back problems and more anger. His verbal abuse towards Janie becomes worse. The town folks even see that he is acting more hostel towards her. All along in their marriage Joe is never afraid to insult Janie infron of everyone. She usually just takes it and move on, but since Joe is getting older he is even more bitter. On this day, Janie fights back, infront of the poarch sitters. Joe ends up hitting her, and makes her leave the store.
